Materials you will need

What are the materials and tools you will need for this pallet wood cabinet?

Since it is a simple project, you will need:

  • Hammer
  • Nails or screws (we like screws because they provide a more precise and strong grip)
  • Electric or manual saw
  • Tape measure

Some other materials that are not mandatory but highly recommended for safety reasons are:

  • Gloves
  • Goggles

Pallet parts

Here you have a view of the pallet we are using for this furniture along with an exploded view of the pallet itself. That way you can locate each one of the parts used for the model. Note that some parts might not be used for this specific model.

Building steps

Step 1: dismantling the pallets

First we will need to dismantle the pallets.

You will need a hammer and a crowbar to be able to dismantle the pallet clean and nicely without breaking any part.

You will also need gloves and protection glasses. Pay attention and the different colors of the parts, will serve as a guide for the next steps.

Step 2: building the floor

Building the floor of the pallet wood cabinet

To build the floor we will use 6 of the solid wooden blocks and 3 wide slats. The legs of the cabinet are 6 of the wooden blocks of the cabinet.

Attach the legs from the inside with decking screws from at leaft 2 points, even though we would attach them from 3 points each.

Step 3: Building the sides and top part

Building the sides and the top part of the pallet cabinet

Here we are going to build the sides and the top. We are going to use 3 wide slats for each of the parts, that is, 9 slats in total.

Step 4: Building the interior

Building the interior of the pallet wood cabinet

In this step we are going to build the inner part. The cabinet will have two separate spaces, one of them with two interior shelves. These shelves (green color) are built with the narrow slats (yellow color) but cut in half.

Step 5: Building the rear part

Building the rear part of the pallet wood cabinet

In this step we are going to build the back of the cabinet. For this we are going to use 11 narrow slats (yellow color) and one wide slat (red color). We have placed the wide slat at the top, but you can place it wherever you want.

Step 6: attaching the rear to the cabinet

Here you can see the final model of our 120x120cm closet fully assembled. From here you only need to sand the cabinet to give a fine texture to the wood and avoid splinters, and then give it a coat of linseed oil or paint (we leave that to your choice).

Step 7: finished the fully assembled model

Here you can see how the finished model looks.

From here it is about finishing the decoration of the model however you want. We recommend you to sand it so you avoid splinters that made damage clothes (in case you use it in the bedroom) and then you can apply lineseed oil (eco option) or paint. Enjoy your cabinet 🙂
