What are the materials and tools you will need for this pallet desk?
As a mandatory set of tools we will need:
Also, these other tools are not mandatory but recommended for safety reasons:
Here you have a view of the pallet we are using for this furniture along with an exploded view of the pallet itself. That way you can locate each one of the parts used for the model. Note that some parts might not be used for this specific model.
The first step is dismantling the pallet and build the pieces of our future pallet desk.
We are going to be using the purple wood slabs (located under the top part of the pallet) to build the three legs of the desk.
As well, the red slabs are going on the top part of the desk (they will be the working surface) and the green slabs are just one third of the yellow slabs (from a yellow you get 3 green ones).
The green slabs are used to build the the shelves of the pallet desk.
In this step we are going to build the shelves of the desk, using the yellow slabs cut in three pieces. As we said in the previous step the yellow slabs are cut in three, in this picture you can see them in green.
Bolt the two green slabs to the purple ones as seen in the picture. This has 2 purposes:
In this desgin we leave 100 mm space on the top and 168 mm space between the 2 green slabs, but you can adapt it to your taste.
The third leg of the desk, the one that goes on the very left side of it, is built using the same pieces we used for the 2 other legs, but we attached the green slab on the very edge. The reason to do this is because that way we have more surface when we put the board on top of the desk (see step 5).
In this step we are going to put together the part where the shelves are located.
As you can see, one we have the two legs for this area, we put them together andwe build the 2 shelves from bottom to top.
To give the piece structural strength it is recommended that you install a 45º horizontal strip in the back of it (like we do in step 6 with the finish model).
The last step is to build the top of the table. You will only need 3 of the wide slats. Easy and simple.
Here you can see the fully finished desk model.
You may need to reinforce the structure with horizontal 45º strips in the back of it, otherwise will not be stable and won’t stand vertical for too long.
From here on, the only thing left to do is to give it the final touches by sanding the wood to avoid splinters, and then, if you want, give it a coat of linseed oil or paint to your liking.
