Materials you will need

What are the materials and tools you will need for this pallet toy box?

You will need:

  • Hammer
  • Nails or bolts (we like blots because they provide a more precise and strong grip)
  • Electric or manual saw
  • Tape measure

Some other materials that are not mandatory but highly recommended for safety reasons are:

  • Gloves
  • Goggles

Pallet parts

Here you have a view of the pallet we are using for this furniture along with an exploded view of the pallet itself. That way you can locate each one of the parts used for the model. Note that some parts might not be used for this specific model.

Building steps

Step 1: Building the floor

The first step is to build the base for the box.

To do this we will use 4 narrow strips (the yellow ones) and to reinforce it we will put small strips made from the green one (which is 1/3 of the yellow as you can see in the parts gallery above).

Screw the blocks from the top, as this is the easiest and most comfortable way of doing it.

Step 2: Reinforcing floor and attaching legs

Building the floor and the legs of the pallet toy box

In this step we will attach the legs of the pallet toy box to the floor. To do this we will use 4 solid blocks from the base of the pallet. Screw the blocks/legs from the top, as this is the easiest and most comfortable way of doing it.

We will also reinforce the whole structure with an horizontal strip. You can use two of them if you want, one next to each other, to make it even stronger. You will have spare parts anyway that you can use for reinforcing the structure wherever you want.

Step 3: building the structure for one side

Building the sides of the pallet toy box

The next step is building one of the sides of the box.

For this we are going to be creating a small structure to suppor the side, made with three small wooden strips (here in green color).

Also, to reinforce this structure we will be also using 4 corner pieces in order to give it strength.

Step 4: building the structure for the other side

Building the sides of the pallet toy box

For the other side of the toy box is exactly the same process like in the previous step. Install a square structure like in the other side and reinforce it with the 4 corner pieces like you did before.

Step 5: building the front of the pallet toy box

Building the front part of the pallet toy box

In this step we are going to build the front part of the toy box.

This step is very easy, is just about placing 3 yellow strips leaving an opening in the middle.

As an alternative you can also place them together leaving the top one empty, or even 2 of them (depending how full the pallet toy box will be). It’s your choice!

Step 6: Closing one side

Closing the sides of the pallet toy box

In this step we going to close the side of our pallet toy box.

For this step we are going to use 4 green strips.

Remember that the green strips are just 1/3 of the yellow as you can see in the parts gallery on top of this page. In other words: cutting one yellow wooden strip in 3 equal parts gives you the 3 green strips we are using here.

Step 7: closing the other side

Closing the sides of the pallet toy box

For the other side of the pallet toy box it is the same process: use 4 green strips and attach them to the side of the toy box.

Step 8: closing the rear of the box

Building the rear part of the pallet toy box

To finish the model we are going to close the rear of our pallet toy box.

Since the yellow strips are the base for this model, this step is about adding 4 of them and attach them to the rear. The pallet toy box is finished.

Step 9: Finishing up

The last step is to make sure the model is strong and we do not need to reinforce it.

As a very last step would be to sand the surface so later we can apply some lineseed oil or paint the furniture as we want.

We hope you and your kids enjoy this beautiful pallet toy box!
